The last few months have been a whirlwind of great music.
At the end of July, I saw my favorite band, Hanson, twice with Rooney as an opener. They played songs off of the new album, Shout It Out, while also throwing in classic Hanson tunes such as “Man From Milwaukee” and “Madeline” from their first album, Middle of Nowhere. Great set. Great energy. Great crowd and great opener.
Also in July, I saw Paramore with New Found Glory. A last minute decision to attend this show, by the end of the night, I was sure glad I did. This was the best performance I have seen Paramore give. Everything from the lighting to the song selection made this night special. It also helped that New Found Glory joined them on the bill.
Then August came with one of the nights I had been waiting for for six years- the reunion of Something Corporate. I knew I would always remember that night as I wanted to soak in everything in case they never tour again, but little did I know that night would as be remember for something else (RIP Nene- I love you). About 45 minutes before Andrew McMahon came out and got the crowd going with the first few notes of “I Woke Up in a Car.” Hearing songs like “Watch the Sky” and “If U C Jordan” again, I can’t even describe how thrilled I was. And to see everyone videotaping on their cameras and phones and putting their cell phones in the air for “Konstantine” was truly a magical moment that I won’t soon forget.
Earlier in August, I went to see The Maine. This was the ninth or tenth time I have seen The Maine and the first since fully hearing songs from their latest album, Black and White. At the show, I was introduced to the band, This Century. I remember Pat Kirch, the drummer of The Maine, telling me a few years back how he was a big fan of this band and I can now see why. They have great energy and super catchy songs like, “Hopeful Romantic” and “To Love and Back.”
I also attended a Green Day concert. Hands down, one of my top 3 favorite Green Day shows. Three hours filled with classics, singles, and a few rarities thrown in the mix. Billie Joe and the rest of the guys were on. Highlights of the night for me included “When I Come Around” and “Letterbomb.”
At the end of August, I saw the Jonas Brothers with Demi Lovato. What makes a Jonas Brothers concert is the crowd. Attending these shows reminds me of being at my first Hanson concert back in 1998- pure fandamonium (if that’s even a word).
